Trauma-Sensitive Yoga

Yoga is a spiritual, mental and physical practice and has existed for thousands of years. At Cactus Flower Healing we use yoga to help calm the mind and body and to gently guide the release of traumatic stress and negative energy.

We believe yoga should be enjoyed by EVERY body and that it is not a competitive sport. Some of the benefits of yoga include: nervous system regulation, improved emotional wellbeing and flexibility, decreased pain, sense of calm and relaxation, and deeper connection between your mind and body.

Our yoga therapists bring the transformative power of yoga to the healing journey. They guide individuals through yoga practices, which may include gentle movements, breathing exercises, and mindfulness techniques. Yoga therapists ensure that the practices are trauma sensitive and adapted to each individual’s physical and emotional abilities and comfort level.

Trauma-Sensitive Yoga integrates the principles of traditional yoga with an understanding of trauma and its effects on the body and mind. Our classes are guided by certified instructors who have received specialized training to create a safe and empowering space for everyone.

Our Approach:

1. Safety First:

We prioritize creating a safe and comfortable environment where students feel secure and supported. Our instructors are trained to use language, cues, and adjustments that respect personal boundaries.

2. Mindful Movement:

Our classes focus on gentle, mindful movement and breath awareness. We encourage students to explore sensations in their bodies, fostering a connection between the mind and body without judgment.

3. Choice and Empowerment:

We empower our students by offering choices throughout the practice. Participants are encouraged to modify poses, take breaks, and choose what feels right for them, fostering a sense of agency and control.

4. Cultivating Mindfulness:

Mindfulness is at the core of our approach. We guide students to develop an awareness of their thoughts, feelings, and sensations, helping them build resilience and cultivate a sense of presence.
